Working of UK’s new point-based immigration system

Since its separation from Europe in December 3, United Kingdom has been in a transitional period with rules and regulations to be extended till 2021, July. The government of UK has followed the report of Migration Advisory Committee’s to roll out plans for a post -Brexit immigration system wherein both the EEA and non-EEA nationals will be treated equally.

The new point based immigration system will need the applicant to score a minimum of 70 points based on factors such as job offer from an approved sponsor with a salary of at least £25,600, be proficient in English language, your job should be in a shortage occupation or a Ph.D. in a subject that is in relation to the job. A thing to note is that candidates with PhD in the fields of Engineering and Science secure double points in this category.

Under the new points-based scheme prospective candidates can secure up to 50 points from three of the major parameters of language, job offer and approved sponsor. The rest of the 20 points can be awarded if you manage to reach an approved level of income, whether the job falls in the shortage occupation list or the candidate has secured a PhD. This migrant program is similar to the discontinued old scheme “Highly Skilled Migrant Program”

There are further talks to permit a selective amount of the most highly skilled workers to migrate to UK without an offer of job, The present announcement by the Government makes no mention about the existing Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) that permits you to live and work in UK for a period of 2 years. There is no mention in this announcement about how UK will seek “low-skilled” workers in the fields of hospitality, transportation or agriculture.
